After a 39-year career serving University of Southern Maine student-athletes, legendary Husky baseball coach Ed Flaherty retired in the spring of 2024 with a laundry list of accolades, historic wins, and lives touched. Joining the Huskies' coaching staff in 1986, Flaherty led both the Southern Maine women's soccer and baseball programs in the early part of his career. Fully admitting he was excited to learn that soccer played 11 a side, Flaherty helped guide the Huskies' women's program through its first seven seasons. During that same time, Flaherty was building a powerhouse of NCAA Division III baseball, winning the University's and program's first NCAA National Championship in 1991 and its second in 1997. Flaherty's teams made eight trips to the College World Series and won eight regional championships. Over his 39 seasons, the Huskies competed in 26 NCAA tournaments. Flaherty retired with a remarkable career record of 1,133-531-4.
