One of the top midfielders in the Little East Conference during his career on the pitch at the University of Southern Maine, Greg Cox finished his playing days as a three-time All-Little East Conference selection, earning second team All-LEC honors as sophomore and first team honors as a junior and as a senior. Cox also earned National Soccer Coaches of America Association (NSCAA) All-New England Fourth team honors in 2007.
A two-year captain (2007, 2008) for the Huskies, Cox played a pivotal role in Southern Maine’s 2008 Little East Conference Regular Season Championship, helping his team to a record of 12-9-1 and a 6-1 record in Little East Conference action. The Huskies earned a bid to the ECAC Division III New England tournament as part of that season.
An adept play maker and scorer, Cox is listed in the Huskies’ career record books for goals scored, assists, and total points. Scoring 23 goals from 2005-2008, Cox is tied for 10th in Southern Maine records, while his 64 career points stands alone at nine. Cox is second all-time in career assists in the Huskies’ men’s soccer program, which dates back to 1957, with 18.
Earning his degree in Economics in 2009, Cox works in financial services for Key Private Bank in New England. Cox is active in his community volunteering with Junior Achievement of Maine and fundraising for The Center for Grieving Children. Cox is also a member of the NAACP, Portland Branch, and a Propel Member for the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce.
