Darci Holland, Field Hockey & Softball, Class of 2005
A two-sport standout as a member of the Huskies’ field hockey and softball teams, Darci Holland earned All-Little East Conference first-team honors in 2002, 2003, and 2004 as an outfielder for the softball team, and was a two-time all-conference midfielder for the field hockey team (2002, 2003).

As a member of the Huskies’ softball team, Holland helped lead her team to a program record 33 wins during her senior season in 2004.  A career .283 hitter, Holland drove in 64 runs, scored 74, and totaled 123 career hits, including 32 doubles, which currently is seventh in Husky career records.

Totaling 10 goals and 15 assists for 35 points during her career, Holland was a member of the Huskies’ 2003 Little East Conference championship field hockey team, that advanced to the NCAA Division III Sweet Sixteen.  With a flair for the clutch, four of Holland’s 10 career goals went for game-winners.
In the 2003 Little East Conference Championship game, Holland put together an outstanding performance, figuring in all of the Huskies’ goals in a 3-1 victory over Keene State to secure the program’s first conference crown, and a bid to the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.  Holland assisted on the Huskies’ first two goals before scoring the third goal of the game for her third goal of the season in the 50th minute to seal the win.

A four-time William B. Wise Scholar-Athlete and a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, Holland earned her degree in Therapeutic Recreation in 2005, and went on to her master’s degree in Education from USM in 2009 with a specialty in K-8 Special Education.  Holland is a first and second grade multi-age teacher at a local school, working closely with the PATHS program (an in-school day treatment program for children with severe behavioral difficulties) in the district. Serving on several school and school district committees (Math Curriculum Team, Distance Learning Team, Response to Intervention Committee), Holland was the varsity field hockey coach at Cape Elizabeth High School for 10 years, and led the program’s youth development initiatives. Holland is also a member of the Maine Education Association, National Education Association and National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
