A two-time Academic All-American earning the honor as a cross country and track & field athlete, Darryl Campbell Whitney was the first University of Southern Maine men's track & field athlete to qualify for and participate in the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship, qualifying in the 1500 meters.
 
Earning 15 All-Little East Conference citations throughout his cross country, and track & field (indoor & outdoor) competitive seasons, Whitney excelled in the 3000m, 1500m, 3000m steeplechase, and 4x800 relay.  Whitney earned Division III All-New England honors three times in his career, showing exceptional grit, talent and versatility.  Prior to the 2024-2025 Huskies' men's indoor track & field season, Whitney ranked first in the 1000m (2:29.58), 1500m (3:55.96), ninth in the mile (4:18.54), and seventh in the 5000m (15:11.75).  Prior to the 2025 outdoor season, Whitney ranked eighth all-time in the 1500m (4:03.33) and third all-time in the 3000m steeplechase (9:36.54).
