Michael Towle, 1970- Mike Towle, a graduate of Gorham State Teachers College in 1970 with a B.S. in social studies, is recognized as one of the most successful runners in school history. During his four years at Gorham, Towle was captain of the cross country team, earning all-conference title three times. He still holds the school records in the mile, two-mile, javelin and pole vault events. Now a teacher at Mahoney Middle School in South Portland, Towle has established one of the strongest middle school programs in the state. Mike and his wife Sheryle live in South Portland.
