A highly decorated member of the Southern Maine’s women’s indoor and outdoor track & field teams, Emily Artesani Walton has 24 All-Little East Conference citations, 26 All-Alliance honors, 13 NCAA Division III All-New England selections and nine ECAC honors to her athletic resume.
Artesani claimed eight individual LEC/Alliance Championships during her indoor career, and seven as a member of the outdoor track & field team. During the 2008 outdoor season, Artesani ran her way to title of NCAA Division III New England Champion in the 400, and she was named the Little East Conference Athlete of the Year in 2009.
A school record holder in the 200, 400, 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 during her career, Artesani Walton helped the Huskies capture consecutive LEC titles in indoor and outdoor track & field in each of her four seasons of competition (2006-2010).
In addition to her numerous accolades on the track, Artesani Walton distinguished herself academically. A graduate of USM’s Honors Program, Artesani Walton earned Dean’s List accolades in each of her semesters and was a four-time William B. Wise Scholar Athlete. She earned CoSIDA Academic All-District One (second team honors) during her years as a student-athlete and graduated from Southern Maine with a degree in Psychology Magna Cum Laude.
Continuing her education after Southern Maine, Artesani Walton earned her Master’s of Education, Curriculum and Instruction: Reading Education from the University of Virginia in 2013. She is a second grade teacher at St. Anne’s-Belfield School.
A member of USM’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Artesani Walton is still active in her community, previously serving as a Girls On The Run mentor, and presently as an acting Group Facilitator for her employer’s Annual Community Service Week.
