Albert D. Bean, Jr. of South Portland, class of 1977, is a familiar face to the local sports enthusiasts. He is a former freelance sportswriter and editor and currently is USM’s coordinator of sports information and athletic fundraising. As a pitcher for USM during the 1974-1977 seasons, Bean broke the record for fewest walks per nine innings (1.27) and earned a place among the top 10 in numerous other career categories. In addition, he has served as an assistant coach at USM and as head coach for the American Legion. He continues as a player-coach in the Portland and Twilight League.
