Leading USM to appearances in the NCAA tournament in 1992 and 1990, and the ECAC tournament in 1991 and 1993, Melissa Emery was named a National Field Hockey Coaches’ Association (NFHCA) All-Region student-athlete in her final season as a Husky.

Playing prior to the Little East Conference’s sponsorship of field hockey championships, Emery served as the Huskies team captain during the 1993 season and helped guide USM to a record of 52-18-4 during her four-year career.  During Emery’s career Southern Maine had some of its most successful seasons and in turn Emery was selected to the NFHCA North/West Senior All-Star game, and was presented with the Paula D. Hodgdon Leadership Award in her final year.

Emery’s success on the field did not diminish following her graduation in 1994.  Immediately following her time at USM, Emery attended her first National Team Camp. Playing all over the world - from Cape Town, South Africa to Canberra, Australia - Emery has spent the past three years as a member of the United States Masters Team (over 35), and has participated in the Master’s World Cup - even earning the distinction of “Player of the Match” against New Zealand in 2016.

Most recently, Emery was selected to the US Master’s Indoor Team, competing in the 2018 Indoor World Cup and finishing fourth - earning the program’s first ever win over the Netherland (indoor or outdoor).
