Keith R. Weatherbie- The 1966-67 season may never be forgotten for fans of the University of Maine Portland basketball teams. During that year, Weatherbie’s last, the team set no less than 12 offensive records including 1,545 points in 18 games, and the school’s highest field goal and free throw percentage up to that date. Individually, Weatherbie set a single-game record during the 1964-65 season with nine assists. “Keith was one of the hardest working, dedicated athletes I’ve ever been involved with,” former UMP Coach Dick Sturgeon says. “He may not have been one of the most talented, but he was one of the most effective.” Weatherbie was also a four-year letter winner for Portland’s baseball team. Weatherbie is currently the athletic director at Cape Elizabeth High School. He received the Jefferson Award for Community Service in 1977.
