David S. Giles, Class of 1980. A part of the golden era of USM men’s soccer that included two trips to the NAIA National Championship, David S. Giles was a four-year starter as sweeper. During his career, Giles guided a stalwart defense that helped the Huskies compile a record of 58-12-4. As part of those 58 victories, Giles helped orchestrate a defense that posted 30 shutouts. As a senior captain in 1979, Giles led USM to a record of 17-3-1 with 10 shutout victories. The Huskies finished fourth in the NAIA National Championship tournament and Giles earned All-Western Maine Athletic Conference, All-State, All-District 5 and All-New England honorable mention honors.
