Southern Maine Athletics

Clifford O.T. Wieden of Presque Isle, the first coach and administrator to be inducted. From 1924 to 1940 he served Gorham Normal School (a predecessor of USM) as athletic director and coach of baseball, basketball, and cross country teams. He retired in 1969 as president of the University of Presque Isle.  The year preceding his retirement, Wieden was acting chief administrator of the then newly formed University of Maine System.
