Coots, Davis, Moore and Wheeler Earn MCBSA Post Season Honors

 
GORHAM, Maine  – Sophomores Aislin Davis (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Mia Coots (Hartland, Maine/Nokomis) and freshmen Emily Wheeler (Old Town, Maine) and Avery Moore (Dublin, NH) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' softball team each earned post-season honors from the Maine College Baseball & Softball Association (MCBSA).  Wheeler earned first team All-State honors for the Huskies, while Coots and Davis were named second team All-State.  Moore earned an All-Rookie Team nod.
 
Earning Little East Conference All-Rookie honors in addition to her Maine state recognition at the conclusion of 2026, Moore earned a spot as the Huskies' starting left fielder and saw action in 23 games before being sidelined with an injury.  Batting near the top of the Southern Maine lineup, Moore hit .406 (26-for-64) and had a .465 on-base percentage with 16 runs scored and five RBI.  Moore had nine games with at least two hits, and collected a season-high three in a 3-for-3 effort with two runs scored and an RBI in an 8-2 win over the University of New England.  Defensively, Moore was solid in left field with 23 putouts and an assist. 
 
Named the MCBSA Rookie of the Week three times in 2026, Wheeler started as third base or the Huskies excelling defensively and offensively.  Hitting an outstanding .433 (52-for-120), Wheeler was the Huskies' second leading hitter, collecting seven doubles and a team-leading five triples.  Batting near the top of the order, Wheeler had 13 RBI and a team-leading 27 runs scored finishing with a .489 on-base percentage and a .561 slugging percentage.  Ending her first season with a 14-game hitting streak, Wheeler had 17 games with two or more hitting, collecting a season-high three hits on three occasions, including a 3-for-5 effort with three RBI and two runs scored in a 10-7 win over WestConn. Wheeler finished the season fielding her position well with a .928 percentage with 31 putouts and 46 assists. Wheeler earned an All-Rookie citation from the Little East.
 
Earning post-season honors for the first time in her career, Davis had a breakout season as the Huskies' right fielder, earning both second team honors from the MCBSA and Little East Conference. Davis led the Huskies' in batting average at .471 and on-base percentage at .495, collecting 41 hits in 87 at-bats with 22 runs scored. Recording 11 multi-hit games with a 1.001 OPS, Davis had five games with three hits, including going 3-for-4 in back-to-back wins over the University of New England. Defensively, Davis had 42 put outs and one assist.

Earning All-State honors for the second time in her career, Coots had an outstanding sophomore season as a starting pitcher for the Huskies. Setting career-best numbers in nearly every statistical category, Coot finished the season with a 13-6 record, and three saves, firing a team-leading 118.1 innings with a solid 2.43 earned run average and a 1.12 WHIP.  Holding her opponents to a .225 batting average, Coots struck out 99 hitters in 2026, including a career-best 12 twice during the season in wins at WestConn and versus Salem State. Making 23 appearances with 18 starts, Coots had 13 complete games and earned three wins via shutout.  Through two seasons, Coots has a career record of 24-15 (2.49 ERA) with four saves, and 204 career strikeouts.
 
Southern Maine concluded its 2026 season with a record of 23-12.
