GORHAM, Maine – For the second time this season freshman
Emily Wheeler (Old Town, Maine) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' softball team has been named the Little East Conference (LEC) Rookie of the Week. Wheeler previously earned the honor on March 23.
Wheeler continued her strong offensive and defensive play in a four-game week for the Huskies that ended with a 3-1 record. Going 7-for-16 at the plate, Wheeler hit an outstanding .438 from the number two spot in the Southern Maine lineup scoring a pair of runs and picking up three RBI. Hitting safely in all four of the Huskies' games, Wheeler ended her week with an outstanding 5-for-9 effort in a doubleheader sweep of WestConn, including hitting her team-leading fifth triple of the season.
For the season, Wheeler hit .433 (52-for-120) with a 1.056 on-base plus slugging percentage, collecting seven doubles and five triples with 13 RBI. Finishing her rookie season with a team-leading 52 hits, Wheeler is the Huskies' second-leading hitter by average. Concluding her 2026 campaign with a 14-game hitting streak dating back to April 13, Wheeler had 17 games with at least two hits.
Southern Maine concluded its 2026 with a sweep of WestConn (8-1, 10-7) this past weekend. The Huskies finished the season 23-12.
