GORHAM, Maine – For the third time this season and second consecutive week, freshman
Emily Wheeler (Old Town, Maine) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' softball team has been named the Maine College Baseball & Softball Association (MCBSA) Rookie of the Week.
Wheeler picks up her second consecutive MCBSA Rookie of the Week after going 7-for-14 at the plate across four games a week ago for the Huskies. Wheeler hit safely in all four games and recorded multi-hit games in three of the four contests. Wheeler also tripled and scored two runs in a 2-2 week for USM.
For the season, the Huskies' third baseman is hitting .423 (47-for-111) with seven doubles and a team-leading four triples. Drawing 10 walks, Wheeler has a .475 on-base percentage and has scored a team-leading 25 runs. Defensively, the Huskies' rookie has 46 assists and 30 putouts in 82 chances. She has hit safely in 12 consecutive games.
Southern Maine (21-12) closes out its regular season on the road at Western Connecticut State for a Little East Conference doubleheader on Saturday (12:00 pm). The 2026 Little East Conference tournament begins on May 6 and will be hosted at the number one seed.
