Huskies’ Softball Welcomes Strong Girls United for 2026 Little League Day

GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine Softball Stadium will be the site of the Huskies' 2026 Little League Day.  Welcoming teams and youth softball players from the surrounding communities, Huskies' softball is partnering with Strong Girls United for this seasons #GirlsWithGame initiative on April 25, 2026 in Gorham.
 
A special event celebrating girls Little League Players in the State of Maine, Huskies' softball will host the Vermont State University Castleton Spartans in a Little East Conference doubleheader at the USM Softball Stadium beginning at 12 pm. Launched in 2019, the #GirlsWithGame program was created to foster the growth and participation in sport among girls, and help develop community mentors and role models.  
 
Having previously hosted a similar event in 2023, the addition of Strong Girls United serve to enhance day's atmosphere. A national non-profit organization, Strong Girls United's mission is to empower girls and women to be strong, confident and resilient through their participation in sport.
 
An advocate for women and girls in sport, serving as a panelist and speaker on numerous occasions and leading both player and coaching clinics, veteran head coach Sarah Jamo said, "Organizing events that celebrate and uplift girls and young women in sport is critical to the continued growth of not only softball, but to girls and women's athletics, overall. This event will not only provide area youth athletes an opportunity to watch two highly competitive and talented teams play, but will also provide a chance for our collegiate student-athletes to see their impact as role models, mentors and leaders."
 
Following the Huskies' doubleheader, Little League players in attendance will have a chance to run the bases, meet student-athletes from both the University of Southern Maine and Spartans' softball teams, and participate in fun games and activities.  Southern Maine's mascot Champ the Husky will be making an appearance, and the Huskies will host an autograph session – team photo cards will be made available for signing. Free t-shirts will be provided for all youth softball players courtesy of USM softball, The Mental Edge Softball Camp, and X-treme Sportswear. Admission to the games is free and concessions will be on hand for all Husky fans. Paying to park at the University of Southern Maine is required. University of Southern Maine Vocal Performance major, Jared Vigue, will perform the national anthem prior to the games. Vigue has been a lead performer in a variety of Southern Maine's Opera and Theatre productions throughout his undergraduate career.
 
In her 14th year with the Huskies, Jamo is a two-time Little East Conference Coach of the Year (2015, 2021). Earning her 100th career win as the Huskies' head coach on April 14, 2018 defeating Little East Conference opponent Rhode Island College 3-1, her 200th career win as head coach came in a doubleheader sweep over conference foe Plymouth State University on April 27, 2023. Currently sitting at 267 all-time wins, Jamo ranks second in program history for Coaches' All-Time Records.
 
Jamo's Huskies have qualified for the Little East Conference post-season tournament the past eight seasons consecutively, earning the number one seed in 2021, and the number two seed in 2022, 2024 and 2025.  In 2023, the Huskies' entered the tourney as the no. 5 seed, and advanced to the championship round. Since the 2013 season, Jamo has coached 49 All-Little East Conference selections, and seven National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region selections in Madi Day (2024). Abby Miner (2024) Belle Snyder (2022), Ashley Tinsman (2021), Kirsten Pelletier (2021), Courtney Davis (2015, 2016). At the conclusion of the 2025 season, Husky first-year pitcher Mia Coots was named to the LEC first team, and was selected as the Maine College Baseball & Softball Association (MCBSA) Rookie of the Year.
