DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Southern Maine women's track & field program won its 24th Little East Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Sunday on the campus of UMass Dartmouth. The Huskies finished with a total of 143 points and won six events. The Huskies have now won five straight conference outdoor titles.
Senior
Zoe Barnes (New Gloucester, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) won the shot put and discus for the third year in a row while also placing fourth in the hammer. Her discus mark of 45.56m is second best in program history. Her shot put distance of 13.29m is a conference championship meet record. Junior
Riley Reitchel (Palermo, Maine/Erskine Academy) also won a field event with her second career conference title in the javelin with a throw of 41.48m. Reitchel also placed second in the pole vault at 2.95m.
Senior
Heaven Conley (Ogunquit, Maine/Wells) and junior
Alexis Karantza (Westbrook, Maine) won individual track events for the Huskies. Conley won the 400 meters with a personal best time of 59.18 seconds to move into fifth in program history. Karantza placed first in the 400-meter hurdles for the second year in a row with a time of 1:06.17. She also placed third in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.68. The 4x400 team of junior
Janiah Young (Perkinsville, Vt./Windsor), Conley, freshman
Mya Austin (Sumner, Maine/Buckfield) and Karantza also won their event with a time of 4:13.35.
Young also had two big individual performances on the track. She placed second in the 100-meter mash with a time of 12.11 seconds in the finals for the second-best time in program history. Young also placed third in the 200-meter dash at 24.83 seconds. Her time is the fourth fastest in program history and puts her second on the program leaderboard.
Senior
Jaigan Boudreau (Dayton, Maine/Thornton Academy) was another Husky with strong performances in two events as she placed second behind Barnes in each event with throws of 40.48m in the discus and 12.90m in the shot put.
Track Event Highlights:
- The 4x100 relay team of Austin, Reitchel, Conley and freshman Saya Breiting-Brown (Portland, Maine/Deering) placed third with a time of 51.05 seconds.
- Breiting-Brown placed third in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 15.93 seconds. Freshman Adria Otash (Berwick, Maine/Noble) placed sixth at 17.22 seconds.
- Conley placed fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.80 seconds to move into ninth in program history.
- Austin placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.70 seconds. She is now 10th in program history in the event. She also finished eighth in the 200-meter dash 26.89 seconds.
- Sophomore Gwen Catalano (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) finished fifth in the 1500m with a time of 5:09.18. She also placed seventh in the 5000 meters with a time of 19:33.83.
- The Huskies' 4x800 team of junior AnnMarie Limberger (Vassalboro, Maine/Waterville), Elise Schultz (Windham, Maine), junior Whitney Davenport (Westbrook, Maine) and freshman Meghan Przybilla (St. Anthony, Minn./St. Anthony Village) placed fifth with a time of 10:59.27.
- Junior Lucy Depolito (North Andover, Mass.) placed seventh in the 10,000 meters with a time of 41:07.37. Sophomore Julia Szewc (Hermon, Maine) placed ninth at 42:27.13.
- Limberger and Przybilla placed ninth and 10th in the 800 meters with times of 2:30.70 and 2:31.77.
Field Event Highlights:
- Junior Autumn Gerry (Winthrop, Maine) placed fifth in the high jump with a height of 1.48m.
- Junior Amara Calhum-Flowers (Bethel, Vt./White River Valley) placed fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.41m. She was also 10th in the long jump with a mark of 4.73m.
- Jalbert placed third in the javelin with a throw of 35.47m. She also tied for seventh in the long jump at 4.85m, placed eighth in the triple jump at 9.56m and was 10th in the high jump at 1.43m
- Junior Izze Gray (Berwick, Maine/Noble) placed seventh in the discus with a mark of 31.44m and 14th in the shot put with a throw of 9.76m.
- Sophomore Sam Fenley (Harlowton, Mont.) placed eighth in the high jump with a mark of 1.43m.
- Junior Lizzie Asman (Marlborough, Mass./ Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter) placed 10th in the discus with a throw of 30.36m.
