HOOKSET, N.H. – Freshman
Emma O'Brien (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest) cleared 3.20m to place first in the pole vault on Thursday as the University of Southern Maine women's track & field team made their outdoor season debut at the Southern New Hampshire University Spring Open.
O'Brien was one of several Huskies to record top five placements in field events. Freshman
Ashley Arsenault (Winthrop, Maine) tied for second in the high jump with a mark of 1.46m. Freshman
Sienna Geretz (Cushing, Maine/Oceanside) placed fifth in the javelin with a throw of 30.84m. Freshman
Nadia Sylla (Burlington, Vt.) placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 10.23m.
On the track, sophomore
Saya Breiting-Brown (Portland, Maine/Deering) placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.07 seconds.
Track Event Highlights:
- Freshman Florence Guimont (Boisbriand, Quebec/Laval Senior) finished seventh in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:10.47. She placed third in her heat.
- Freshman Addy Burkhardt (Lisbon Falls, Maine/Lisbon) placed seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 2:32.58.
- Senior Anabel Melanson (West Warren, Mass./Quaboag) placed ninth at 2:33.36. Burkhardt was the top performer in her heat.
- Senior Lucy Depolito (North Andover, Mass.) placed eight in the 5000 meters with a time of 20:26.11.
Field Event Highlights:
- Junior Wynter Simack (South Royalton, Vt./White River Valley) tied for seventh in the pole vault with a mark of 2.15m.
- Sylla also placed eighth in the hammer with a toss of 34.56m.
- Sophomore Kate LeBlanc (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) placed 10th in the javelin with a mark of 28.30m.
- Freshman Ava Gerrity (Windham, Maine) placed 10th in the triple jump with a jump of 9.60m.
- Senior Lizzie Asman (Marlborough, Mass./Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter) placed 11th in the discus with a throw of 26.46m.
Up Next:
The Huskies will have a group of athletes competing tomorrow and Saturday at the Emory Thrills in the Hills Invitational in Atlanta, Ga. The first events on Friday start at 2:00 pm.
