GORHAM, Maine – Tallying 40 points, the University of Southern Maine Huskies' softball team was picked to finish fourth in the 2025 Litlte East Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll. UMass Boston received five first-place votes to finish atop the poll with 61 points, followed by Eastern Connecticut with 58 points and four first-place votes. Rhode Island College tallied 50 points to finish ahead of USM in third.
Last season the Huskies finished with a record of 26-13 and advanced to the championship round of the Little East Conference Championship before bowing out 2-0 to 2024 champion Eastern Connecticut State.
Led by veteran head coach Sarah Jamo, entering her 13
th season in 2025, Southern Maine will have a new look to its lineup after graduating a large contingent of veteran leadership including All-Conference shortstop
Madi Day, All-Conference pitcher/utility
Belle Snyder, and All-Conference 1B
Rona Scott.
With an opportunity for different student-athletes to make their mark, the Huskies do return plenty of talent and leadership to their 2025 squad, and will add a good deal of first-year talent. Among the returns are All-Conference pitcher
Lexus McIntosh (Lancaster, N.H./White Mountains Regional), utility
Olivia Levasseur (Amesbury, Mass.) and C/OF
Meaghan Dufresne (Mattapoisett, Mass./Old Rochester Regional).
Earning first team All-State honors from Maine College Baseball & Softball Association (MCBSA) and second-team All-Little East Conference honors, McIntosh started 23 games and made 29 appearances, pitching her way to 15 wins, and three saves. Firing six shutouts during the season, McIntosh had an outstanding 1.69 earned run average. Completing a team-leading 137.0 innings in her sophomore campaign, McIntosh limited opponents to an anemic .220 batting average, and she threw 105 strikeouts, including a career-high 10 strikeouts in a 3-1 win on the road at Bowdoin College.
Starting all 41 games, Levasseur, a 2024 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honoree, had a strong sophomore season hitting .330 (38-for-115) with 24 runs scored, seven doubles, a triple and 20 RBI while drawing a team-leading 19 walks. Playing both catcher and second base during the 2024 season, Dufresne played in 33 games with 29 starts. Hitting .250 (22-for-88) with 19 runs scored, five doubles, two triples and 13 RBI.
Southern Maine begins its 2025 season with a challenging 10-game schedule at The Spring Games hosted in Clermont, Fla. The Huskies open up against Middlebury College on March 15 (9:00 am) and wrap up the Southern schedule against Keuka College on March 20 (11:15 am).
Upon returning to the Northeast, the Huskies are on the road for a doubleheader at local rival University of New England on March 26 (3:00 pm) for a doubleheader and remain on the road for their Little East Conference opener a doubleheader against Rhode Island College on March 29 (1:00 pm). USM's first home games of the 2025 season are slated for Wednesday, April 2 (3:30 pm) doubleheader against Saint Joseph's College.
