GORHAM, Maine – Former Husky
Ryan Dyer has joined the University of Southern Maine cross country and track & field coaching staff as interim assistant coach. Dyer ran for the Huskies from 2006-2011.
"I'm excited to have Ryan join our track and field / cross country staff here at USM. I've long admired his work at the high school level and his success there speaks for itself," said head coach
Rob Whitten. "I know getting to the college level has long been a goal of his and I'm looking forward to watching him share his passion for our sport and for his student athletes with our group. As an alum of the program, he knows what it means to be a Husky and will help make that connection with our current student-athletes even better."
Dyer comes to Southern Maine from Bonny Eagle High School where he had served as head coach for the girls' track & field team since 2017. He has also been the head coach of the girls' cross country program at Bonny Eagle since 2023 after spending time as an assistant coach with both the girls' and boys' cross country teams. Dyer also assisted with coaching the Bonny Eagle boys' track & field teams.
""I'm extremely excited to join the coaching staff here at USM. This has always been a dream of mine, to come back and coach at the place that gave me so much during my time as a student athlete," said Dyer. "There is an outstanding winning culture here and I look forward to being a part of it."
While at Bonny Eagle, Dyer and the Scots' coaching staff coached two individual cross country state champions, 12 individual indoor state champions and 14 individual outdoor state champions. He earned numerous accolades during his tenure and was named the Southwestern Maine Activities Association (SMAA) Coach of the Year in all three sports. He first was named SMAA Indoor Coach of the Year for the 2021-22 season and then won the 2022 SMAA Outdoor Track Coach of the Year award. In 2023 he was named the SMAA Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year and the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) High School Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year for the state of Maine.
Dyer spent a season as a volunteer assistant coach with the men's cross country team in 2011 following the end of his collegiate career.
