GORHAM, Maine – Five members of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's cross country and track & field program have earned 2025-2026 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors. Earning the academic distinction were sophomore
Trevor Amos (New Gloucester, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester), senior
Maddox Cahill (Sunapee, N.H.), senior
Michael Cyr (Caribou, Maine), senior
Michael D'Amico (Belgrade Lakes, Maine/Messalonskee) and sophomore
Matt Reynolds (Winslow, Maine). Cahill and D'Amico are now three-time Academic All-District honorees. This is the first honor for Amos, Cyr and Reynolds.
To be eligible for Academic All-District recognition, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically with a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher. Eligible nominees are based on TFRRS regional performance rankings at the time of nomination. They must also have a rank in the Top 50 in their region in a single event (XC, indoor or outdoor). Selected by College Sports Communicators, the Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in competition and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Amos, a Nursing major, placed eighth in the weight throw (14.94m) and 13th in the shot put (12.75m) at the LEC Indoor Championships and 11th in both the 11th in the shot put (13.05m) and discus (39.36m) at the outdoor championships. He ranked 17th in the region in the weight throw with a personal-best mark of 15.14m and ranked in the top 20 in the hammer with a mark of 45.32m. Amos ranks second in program history in the hammer, third in the weight throw, fifth in the discus, seventh in the outdoor shot put and 10th in the indoor shot put.
Cahill, a team captain and Studio Art major, earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honors in the indoor 400 meters and the outdoor 400-meter hurdles by ranking in the top eight in the region in each event. His personal-best 400-meter hurdles times of 53.02 second ranks sixth in program history and ranked fourth in the region this season in addition to ranking 29th nationally. Cahill also earned All-Region honors as part of the Huskies' 4x100 relay team for the outdoor season. At the conference level, Cahill earned Second Team All-LEC honors in the 4x100 and Third Team honors in the 400-meter hurdles. In his career, Cahill has earned All-Region honors four times.
Cyr, a team captain during the cross country season, placed 50th at the NCAA Division III East Regional Championships with a time of 26:08.4 in the 8k. His performance at the meet combined with his work in the classroom earned him the first USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete designation of his career. Cyr also earned First Team All-LEC honors during the cross country season by placing sixth in the 8k with a personal-best time of 25:59.7. He then won the first LEC title of his career by placing first in the 3000 meters with a time of 3000m with a time of 8:57.58 while also earning Second Team All-LEC honors in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:29.00. Cyr then earned Third Team All-LEC honors in the 5000 meters during the outdoor season with a time of 15:40.39. He completed his degree in Health Sciences.
D'Amico earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors in both the heptathlon and decathlon and placed second in both events at the respective Division III New England Championships. His score of 6,042 points in the decathlon was the best in the region and ranked 45 nationally. His converted heptathlon score of 4,803 points ranked third in the region and 27th nationally and he ranks third in program history in the event. D'Amico won the LEC title in the indoor pole vault with a mark of 4.40m and placed third in the outdoor version of the event with a mark of 4.45m to match his personal-best. He completed his degree in Cybersecurity last month.
Reynolds, a thrower and Economics major, placed eight in the javelin at the LEC Outdoor Championships with a personal-best mark of 45.38m. His mark ranked 44th in the region. Reynolds also placed 10th in the javelin at the Pine Tree State Classic in addition to setting an outdoor-best in the shot put at 10.81m to place 11th and a personal-best in the discus with a throw of 31.40m to place 14th.
