Former Husky Ryan Dyer joined the University of Southern Maine cross country and track & field coaching staff as interim assistant coach in the fall of 2024. Dyer ran for the Huskies from 2006-2011. He completed his bachelor’s degree in business management in the Fall of 2024.
Dyer cames to Southern Maine from Bonny Eagle High School where he had served as head coach for the girls’ track & field team since 2017. He had been the head coach of the girls’ cross country program at Bonny Eagle since 2023 after spending time as an assistant coach with both the girls’ and boys’ cross country teams. Dyer also assisted with coaching the Bonny Eagle boys’ track & field teams.
While at Bonny Eagle, Dyer and the Scots’ coaching staff coached two individual cross country state champions, 12 individual indoor state champions and 14 individual outdoor state champions. He earned numerous accolades during his tenure and was named the Southwestern Maine Activities Association (SMAA) Coach of the Year in all three sports. He first was named SMAA Indoor Coach of the Year for the 2021-22 season and then won the 2022 SMAA Outdoor Track Coach of the Year award. In 2023 he was named the SMAA Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year and the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) High School Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year for the state of Maine.
Dyer spent a season as a volunteer assistant coach with the USM men’s cross country team in 2011 following the end of his collegiate career.
