Madi Day (Otisfield, Maine/Oxford Hills) and junior
Abby Miner (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Region honors. Day was name to the All-Region II First Team at shortstop, while Miner earned second team honors as a designated player.
The NFCA All-Region teams honor student-athletes from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's 10 regions with selection to one of three teams. NFCA member head coaches nominate and then vote for the winners in their respective region. Three hundred seventy-six student-athletes from 167 schools are represented on the 2024 NFCA Division III All-Region teams. All honorees move forward to be considered for selection for the three NFCA Division III All-America squads, which will be announced May 29.
Day and Miner are the 25
th and 26
th individuals to earn NFCA All-Region honors in program history, and are the fourth and fifth individuals to earned the all-region distinction in the last four years, joining 2022 second team selection
Belle Snyder (Epping, N.H.), 2021 second team pick Kirsten Pelletier '21 and 2021 third team selection Ashley Tinsman '21). With her selection to the 2024 All-Region II First Team, Day is the first Husky to earn first team honors since the 2004 season when three members of program Kristen Tong (Catcher), Renee Heath Towne (Third Base) '04, and Jessie Becher '04 (At Large) were named to the first team.
Both Day and Miner were recently named to the 2024 All-Little East Conference second team. In her first season with the Huskies, Miner, USM's designated player, led the team offensively with 59 hits in 137 at-bats for a .431 average – good for fourth in the Little East Conference. With the ability to hit for power, Miner led the Huskies with 15 doubles and six home runs. Hitting from the no. 2 spot in the lineup, Miner's 25 RBI placed second on the team. In addition to the fourth-best average in the LEC at .431, Miner's .672 slugging percentage and 1.162 OPS ranked third in the conference, while her 59 hits and 15 doubles were second. Her six home runs led the Little East Conference.
Miner's 59 hits in 2024 are tied for fourth in USM single-season records, while her 15 doubles are tied for third, and her six home runs are tied for second. Her .431 batting average is tied for 10
th with Heath from 2002.
A four-year starter at shortstop, Day earned post-season honors for the first time in her career. Hitting .410 (50-for-122) for a career-best performance at the plate for the Huskies, Day drove in a team-leading 26 RBI, adding 11 doubles and a home run. Batting third in the Huskies' lineup, Day scored a team-leading 32 runs and has an on-base percentage of .475, drawing a career-best 15 walks in 2024. A standout defensively, Day had 108 assists and 32 putouts and helped turn three double-plays. In the Little East, Day ranks fifth in batting average, 10
th in slugging percentage (.525), seventh in on-base percentage (.475), seventh in OPS (1.000), sixth in runs scored (32), fourth in hits (50), sixth in RBI (26), and ninth in doubles (11). In 158 career games, Day finished with 154 hits, including 36 doubles, two triples and a home run with 76 RBI for a career .310 batting average.

th in RBI (76), 13
th in total bases (197), and is the program's leader in assists with 372 for a career .946 fielding percentage.
Southern Maine concluded its season with a 28-13 overall record and a 9-7 mark in the Little East Conference. The Huskies advanced to the championship round of the 2024 Little East Conference Championship Tournament.
