Four Huskies Earn Little East Conference Post-Season Honors

GORHAM, Maine – Four members of the University of Southern Maine Huskies softball team have earned post-season honors from the Little East Conference following the conclusion of the 2023 season.  Senior Hannah Shields (Buckfield, Maine) earned a spot on the 2023 LEC All-Conference first team, while senior Rona Scott (Beverly, Mass.) and junior Belle Snyder (Epping, N.H.) were named to the second team.  Freshman Kendall Migliorini (Salem, N.H.) was named to the 2023 All-Rookie team.
 
In her first year with the Huskies, Migliorini appeared in 38 games for Southern Maine earning All-Rookie honors as an infielder.  In 38 games, Migliorini started 37 and saw action primarily at third base.  Migliorini hit .248 (25-for-101) with four runs scored and 12 RBI.  Among her 25 hits, Migliorini had a team-leading nine doubles. Defensively, Migliorini had 21 put outs and 53 assists, and helped turn 15 double plays. .
 
A first-team selection in 2021 and a second team pick in 2022, Scott picks up her third all-conference nod at first base in her career.  Playing and starting in 39 games, Scott hit .286 (34-for-119) with 20 RBI, including six doubles, a triple and a team-leading three home runs.  A defensive standout with a perfect fielding percentage, Scott led the Huskies with 320 put outs, and had five assists, helping turn eight double plays. Her 320 putouts in 2023 are second USM single season record.  She has a school record 830 putouts in her career.
 
Snyder is earning post-season accolades for the second time in her career with her selection to the LEC second team as a pitcher.  A first team all-conference pick as a utility/pitcher in 2022, Snyder also earned All-Region honors in 2022. Appearing in 24 games and starting in 12, Snyder fired 97.0 innings, earning eight wins and picking up a pair of saves. Striking out 109 batters in 2023, Snyder had a pair of double-digit strikeout games against Little East Conference opponents, fanning a career-high tying 13 in a 5-1 win over Plymouth State and 12 in a 2-1 win against Keene State. Solid at the plate, Snyder hit .312 with 29 hits in 93 at bats with 12 runs scored and eight RBI. 
 
Playing and starting in all 41 games, Shields hit a team-best .320 with 40 hits in 125 at-bats, scoring a team-high 18 runs and driving in a team-best 24 RBI. Among her 40 hits were eight doubles and a home run.  A defensive standout in center field, Shields fielding a perfect 1.000 and had 38 put outs in 2023.  Sheilds' .320 average is a career-best for the Husky senior, as are her overall hits (40), doubles (8) and RBI (24). Shields was a repeat hitter in 11 of her 41 games this season.
 
Southern Maine concluded its season with a record of 10-6 in the Little East Conference and was the third seed in the 2023 LEC Championship tournament. The Huskies have finished in the top three of the Little East Conference regular season standings each of the last three seasons.
