NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament: Wisconsin-Oshkosh Defeats Southern Maine 7-0 in NCAA Regional

Huskies Conclude Season 31-6-1; Best Winning Percentage in School History

Box Score EAU CLAIRE, Wisc.  –  Maddie Fink pitched seven full, allowing just three hits and a walk, while striking out eight to lead the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Titans to a 7-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in game five of the NCAA Division III Eau Claire Regional Saturday morning.
           Wisconsin-Oshkosh (26-11) advances in the regional and will face the winner of Alfred University vs. Piedmont later today. In the Also Receiving Votes category of the NFCA poll, Southern Maine concludes its historic season at 31-6-1. Competing in the NCAA tournament for the first time in 22 seasons (1999), the Huskies won the 2021 Little East Conference regular season championship, and set a school record for consecutive wins with 14.  
           Behind Fink's (18-3) performance, Wisconsin-Oshkosh combined for seven runs on nine hits and were led by a 2-for-4 performance from Acacia Tupa. Tupa homered in the first to give Wisconsin-Oshkosh an early lead, and scored three runs. Gabby Buikema gave the Titans a 5-0 lead in the third with a grand slam home run to finish the game 1-for-3 with four RBI.
           USM junior Kaitlyn Nelson (Guildhall, Vermont/White Mountains Regional), sophomore Rona Scott (Beverly, Mass.) and freshman Belle Snyder (Epping, N.H.) each had a hit for the Huskies. Scott stroked a double in the fifth.
           Southern Maine senior Alexis Brown (Malden, Mass.) absorbed the loss for the Huskies. Finishing 11-3 on the year, Brown allowed five earned runs on four hits and three walks in three innings. USM graduate student Kirsten Pelletier (West Gardiner, Maine/Messalonskee) closed out the game allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks.
