Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
GORHAM, Maine –  Junior Lily Cooper (Lamoine, Maine/Ellsworth) single through the right side to drive in a pair of runs to cap a three-run rally leading the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 7-6 come-from-behind victory over the Bates College Bobcats in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader to secure the sweep Wednesday afternoon at Towers Field.  The Huskies took game one 1-0.

With the pair of wins, Southern Maine stops a two-game slide and improves its record to 14-15 on the season.  Bates College falls to 3-12 with the pair of losses.

Freshman Desiree Benner (Friendship, Maine/Medomak Valley) earned her fourth win of the season pitching 6.2 innings of shutout ball allowing five hits and three walks.  Benner struck out three.  Senior Stefanie Stockwell (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) came on in the seventh with a man on second and two outs and retired the Bobcats final batter to earn her second save of the season.

Stockwell was also responsible for the lone run in the game with an RBI single laced up the middle in the bottom of the third. With two outs, freshman Samantha Crosman (South Berwick, Maine/Marshwood) started the Huskies' offense with her team-leading 12th double of the season. Stockwell followed Crosman with her 15th RBI of the season.

In the second game, Bates jumped to a 5-0 lead scoring three runs in the second and two runs in the third.  Junior Brenna Callahan (Milton, Mass.), Molly Brown (South Dartmouth, Mass.) and sophomore Karen Lockhart (East Greenwich, R.I.) each had RBIs in the first inning for the Bobcats.  Callahan added her second RBI of the game in the third with a  double, while senior Alayna Garbarino (Reading, Mass./Phillips Andover) added a RBI double of her own.

USM took four runs back in the bottom of the third, on a fielder's choice RBI from freshman Emily York (Belgrade, Maine/Messalonskee), an RBI single from Crosman and a two-run double from junior Kristen Duross (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy).

Callahan drove in her third run of the game with an RBI single through the right side to make it 6-4 in favor of the Bobcats in the top of the fifth.  The Huskies rallied however with three hits in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win.

Stockwell earned the win on the mound, allowing five earned runs on nine hits and four walks.  Callahan was the hard-luck loser allowing four earned runs on nine hits without a walk. She struck out six.

Southern Maine travels to Keene State on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) for a Little East Conference doubleheader.  Bates hosts nationally-ranked Tufts University in the first of a three-game series on Friday (4:00 p.m.).
