Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla.  – The University of Southern Maine Huskies softball team dropped another pair of games falling to the Mount Mercy College Mustangs and no. 12 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks Tuesday morning in Clermont, Fla. The Huskies fell to the Mustangs in a closely contested game 4-2 and dropped a 10-0 decision to the nationally ranked Warhawks 10-0.

With the pair of losses, Southern Maine remains winless this season and is 0-8.  UW-Whitewater improves to 7-1 while Mount Mercy improves its record to 7-3.

In the first game, the Huskies led the Mustangs 2-0 after the top of the third inning on a two-run single from sophomore Annie Mitchell (Gorham, Maine).  Mitchell hit the ball sharply to left field to score junior Stefanie Stockwell (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and senior Kaylie DeMillo (Jay, Maine).  DeMillo reached with a one-out double and advanced to third following a two-out single from Stockwell.  A stolen base from Stockwell set the Huskies up with runners on third and second with two-outs as Mitchell's hit got past a diving Mustang outfielder for the runs.

The Huskies' lead was short-lived however as Mount Mercy answered in the bottom half of the inning with a pair of runs on a two-out two-run double from senior Liz Hill (Shellsburg, Iowa).

After a scoreless fourth inning, the Mustangs to a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth and added an insurance run for the win in the sixth.  Mustang senior Paige Lager (Missouri Valley, Iowa) earned the win striking out six and scattering six hits over seven innings.  Stockwell pitched well in the loss for the Huskies giving up five hits with three strikeouts, but was hurt by three USM errors.

Against 12th-ranked UW-Whitewater, the Warhawks pounded out 10 hits, including four doubles, to roll to the 10-0 win.  Sophomore Samie Seamon (Antioch, Ill.) and freshman Paige Evangelista (Wheaton, Ill.) each had a pair of RBI for the Warhawks.  Freshman Bekka Houda (Lisle, Ill) earned the win in the circle firing four strong innings. Houda allowed three hits and struck out four.

In its final two games in Florida, Southern Maine will face Oberlin College (11:30) and UW-Whitewater (1:30) on Wednesday.
