Huskies Drop Two: No. 7 DePauw 14-1 (5) and Middlebury 8-0 (5)

CLERMONT, Fla.  – The University of Southern Maine Huskies softball team dropped two games Sunday afternoon in Clermont Fla. as part of its annual spring training trip.  Southern Maine fell to seventh-ranked DePauw University Tigers 14-1 in five inning and then dropped an 8-0 five-inning game to the Middlebury College Panthers. 

         The nationally ranked Tigers extended their winning streak to 10 games and improved to 10-0 on the season.  Middlebury College improved its record to 1-3.  The Huskies remain winless and fall to 0-6 early in the season

         In the first game, DePauw pounded out 17 hits en route to its 14-1 win over the Huskies. Seniors Jen Kosinski (Schererville, Ind.) and Holly Paris (Covington, Ind.) each had three RBI for DePauw.  Parris tagged USM pitchers for four hits in the win, while Kosinski connected on three.

         Southern Maine junior Katie Davis (Woburn, Mass.) drove in the Huskies' lone run of the game. 

         Middlebury used four runs in the bottom of the third and four more in the bottom of the sixth to earn its 8-0 win over Southern Maine.   Middlebury hurlers sophomore Alexa Lesenskyj (Lawrenceville, Vt.)  and freshman Marcela Olvera (Warren Township, Vt.) held the Husky bats to just four hits in the win.

         Junior Jessica Poracky (Ramsey, Vt.) drove in three of the Panthers eight runs.  Southern Maine junior Stefanie Stockwell (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) collected two of the Huskies' four hits in the contest.

         After a day off, Southern Maine returns to action on Tuesday for a pair of games.  The Huskies will face Mt. Mercy (9:00 a.m.) and Wisconsin-Whitewater (11:00 a.m.).
