Box Score 2 SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – Sophomore 1B Christina Cipriani (Peabody, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) combined for five RBI over two games to help the Salem State University Vikings to a non-conference softball doubleheader sweep over the University of Southern Maine Huskies Thursday night at Wainwright Field in South Portland, Maine. The game was moved to South Portland due to unplayable field conditions in Gorham.
With the win Southern Maine falls to 2-18. The Vikings improve 13-10 with the win, extending their win streak to 13.
Cipriani finished the doubleheader 3-for-7 at the plate as the Vikings rapped out 18 hits over two games in the sweep. Freshman P Lauren DiCredico (Tewkswbury, Mass.) continued her strong start for the Vikings improving to 4-1 on the season for the 9-3 win in the opener. DiCredico struck out four batters and scattered seven hits over seven innings for the win.
In the second game, Cipriani was the difference maker driving in three runs as part of a five-run fifth inning with a double to left-center field. Senior 3B Jenna Lentine (Methuen, Mass.) added two RBI for the Vikings.
Southern Maine senior Sarah Deroche (Portland, Maine/Deering) finished the two games with five hits in a 5-for-8 mark at the plate. Sophomore C Katie Davis (Woburn, Mass.) drove in a team-high three runs.
Southern Maine travels to Rhode Island College on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) for a Little East Conference doubleheader. Salem State travels to Worcester State on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) for MASCAC doubleheader.
