Warhawks and Bantams Down Southern Maine

CLERMONT, Fla.   –  The University of Southern Maine Huskies softball team dropped a pair of games falling to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks 10-1 (5 inn.) and the Trinity College Bantams 8-0 (5 inn.) at the National Training Center on Wednesday in Clermont, Fla.

            The Warhawks pounded out 14 hits to defeat the Huskies led by two hits each from sophomore OF Sarah Fisher (Greenfield, Wisc.), freshman 2B Amanda Ramirez (Chicago, Ill./Trinity), senior OF Haley Krueger (Beach Park, Ill./Waukegan) and freshman C Laura Eichenold (Elmwood Park, Ill./Trinity).  Sophomore P Sammy Kessler (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) earned the win in the circle for the Warhawks scattering seven hits over five innings. 

            Southern Maine freshman 2B Annie Mitchell (Gorham, Maine) drove in the Huskies lone run of the game with a single down the left field line in the bottom of the third inning.

            Trinity senior P Kristen Anderson (West Haven, Conn.) fired a no-hitter in the second game to lead the Bantams to the 8-0 win over USM.  Anderson struck out one batter and gave up two walks in the win.  Anderson was aided by a four RBI performance from senior 1B Nicole Nardella (Beverly, Mass.).  Nardella was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a home run.

            Southern Maine wraps up its southern trip with games against Buffalo State (9:30 a.m.) and Elmhurst (1:30 p.m.) on Thursday.
