GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's cross country team will be competing at the 2025 Little East Conference Men's Cross Country Championship on Saturday, November 1 at the Owls Athletic Complex at Keene State College. The race will start at 10:00 am.
Southern Maine placed fifth at last season's conference championship and returns two their top five runners from last year's meet in senior
Michael Cyr (Caribou, Maine) and junior
Cyrus Evans (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue). Cyr placed 15th last season while Evans finished 26th.
Cyr has been the top runner for the Huskies in each of the three meets that he has competed in. The senior captain started the season on a strong note with a first-place finish at the Ron Ouellette Invitational with a time of 16:05.1 on the 5k course. On his last time out, Cyr ran a personal-best 8k time of 26:01.2 to place 44th at the Keene State Invitational. Cyr has moved up the leaderboard at the conference championship meet each season since placing 21st as a freshman in 2022 with a time of 27:39.9. He was the top rookie finisher at that meet and earned LEC Rookie of the Year honors.
Evans, who is also a team captain, has been one of the team's top three finishers at three meets this season. This will be his third time racing in the conference championship meet.
Another Husky to watch for is freshman
Harry Dunne (Hollis Center, Maine/Bonny Eagle), a four-time LEC Rookie of the Week this season. Dunne has had a breakout rookie season for the Huskies and was the team's top performer at the 2025 New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships with a personal-best 8k time of 26:24.7 to place 118th. His efforts earned him both the LEC Runner of the Week and Rookie of the Week awards.
The Huskies' roster also includes freshmen
Evan Schneider (Old Orchard Beach, Maine/Old Orchard Beach),
Camden Cyr (Kittery, Maine/Traip Academy) and
Gavin Gerry (Gray, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) and sophomore
Preston Gerry (Gray, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester), all of whom have been improving in each meet this year.
Participating Programs: Eastern Connecticut State University, Keene State College, Plymouth State University, Rhode Island College, UMass Boston, UMass Dartmouth, University of Southern Maine, Vermont State University Castleton and Western Connecticut State University.
USM at the Little East Conference Championship: The Huskies have won eight LEC titles (2006, 2007, 2011, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021). The team has had five student-athletes win individual conference titles including Tyler Jasud, who claimed the 2008 and 2009 event crowns.
