GORHAM, Maine  – For the second time this season, freshman Emily Wheeler (Old Town, Maine) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' softball team has been named the Maine College Baseball & Softball Association (MCBSA) Rookie of the Week.
 
Wheeler earned the weekly accolade after posting a .550/.591/.750 slash line during a 5-1 week for Southern Maine.  Wheeler reached base safely in all six games and recorded a multi-hit game in four contests. During the six-game stretch, Wheeler totaled 11 hits, including two doubles and a triple, while scoring five runs.  She also added one RBI and drew a pair of walks.
 
For the season, the Huskies' third baseman is hitting .433 (42-for-97) with seven doubles and four triples.  Hitting from near the top of the Southern Maine lineup for the season, Wheeler has a .491 on-base percentage and has scored a team-leading 24 runs. 
 
Southern Maine (19-10) is at home on Saturday (12:00 pm) for a Little East Conference doubleheader versus VTSU-Castleton.  The Huskies' will be hosting their 2026 Little League Day with Strong Girls United.  Area Little League teams will take part in between-game and post-game activities.
