GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's track & field has earned All-Academic Team honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2024-25 season. The team also had four student-athletes, graduate student
William Carrolton (Bath, Maine/Morse), senior
Ben Drummey (Biddeford, Maine), freshman
Joey Richards (Winslow, Maine) and graduate student
Ethan Shain (Sanford, Maine), earn All-Academic Athlete status. The honor is the fourth of Drummey's career and the second of Carrolton's.
Programs are recognized as All-Academic Teams if their cumulative team GPA is at least a 3.10 on a 4.0 scale through the most recent semester/quarter. All-Academic Athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher and must meet an addition athletic requirement of either finishing the season among the top 50 individuals on the national performance list or being a member of one of the top 35 relay teams.
Carrolton placed ninth in the discus at the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships to earn Second Team All-American status. He won the Little East Conference title in the indoor shot put and then claimed the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) title in the discus. Carrolton set new program records in the indoor shot put (15.67m), the outdoor shot put (15.78m) and the discus (53.29m). He is a graduate student in the Policy, Planning, & Management program.
Drummey recently earned Second Team College Sports Communicators (CSC) Division III Academic All-America ® honors for the third consecutive year. He was a Second Team All-American performer in the pole vault at both the indoor and outdoor national championships. He earned All-Region honors in the pole vault for both the indoor and outdoor seasons and won his sixth career LEC pole vault title. Drummey, a Nursing major, was an All-Academic Athlete in 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 and was named the 2023 NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track & Field National Scholar Field Athlete of the Year.
Richards placed 21st in the 400 meters at the 2025 Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships with a time of 49.71 seconds. He was named the LEC Indoor Track Rookie of the Year after placing first in the 200 meters, 400 meters and as part of a 4x400 relay team. The indoor season also saw him set a new program record in the 400 meters with a time of 48.07 seconds. Richards earned All-Region honors in the event and his major is undeclared.
Shain earned a pair of All-American honors in 2025. First, he placed sixth in the 60-meter dash at the indoor national championships with a program-record time of 6.75 seconds. He then placed 10th in the 100-meter dash at the outdoor nationals with a time of 10.61 seconds. Shain also tied the program records in the 55-meter dash (6.43 seconds) and indoor 200 meters (21.86 seconds) and set new records in the 100 meters (10.43 seconds) and 200 meters (21.41 seconds) during the outdoor season in addition to running on a 4x100 relay team that also broke the program record. Shain won conference titles in the 100 meters and 200 meters and was named the LEC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year. He also earned All-Region honors in the 60-meter dash, the 100-meter dash and the 200 meters. Shain earned his degree in Business Management before pursuing a Master's in Leadership Studies.
Carrolton and Drummey also earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors for the 2024-2025 academic year.
