NEW LONDON, Conn. – Senior
Zoe Barnes (New Gloucester, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) won the discus at the NCAA Division III New England Championships on Saturday with a throw of 45.45m. Her distance is the fourth best in program history behind her own top three marks. She is now the second Husky to win a DIII New England title in the discus, joining two-time champion Christine Berube who won back-to-back titles in 1992 and 1993. Barnes also finished second in the shot put with a toss of 13.12m, the fifth best throw in program history. The Huskies finished fourth in the team standings with 46 points. Today's placement is the best by the Huskies since the 2016 team placed third.
Senior
Jaigan Boudreau (Dayton, Maine/Thornton Academy) placed third in both the discus and shot put. Her shot put mark of 13.02m is a personal best and is tied for the seventh best throw in program history. Boudreau also matched her personal best in the discus at 43.74m to move into fourth in the NCAA Division III East region and the 33rd spot on the national leaderboard. Her shot put mark is tied for 42nd nationally and ranks third in the region.
Senior
Heaven Conley (Ogunquit, Maine/Wells) also scored points for the Huskies by placing fifth in the 400 meters with a personal best time of 58.41 seconds. Conley is now the third fastest 400-meter runner in program history and her time is the 10th fastest in program history. Her time is 14th in the East region. Junior
Alexis Karantza (Westbrook, Maine) also ran well for the Huskies as she placed ninth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.94.Â
The Huskies also competed in the 4x800 relay with a team of freshman
Meghan Przybilla (St. Anthony, Minn./St. Anthony Village), junior
Whitney Davenport (Westbrook, Maine), sophomore
Gwen Catalano (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and junior
AnnMarie Limberger (Vassalboro, Maine/Waterville). The group ran a season best time of 10:11.54 to place 16th. Their time is the seventh best in program history.Â
Freshman
Amara Calhum-Flowers (Bethel, Vt./White River Valley) also set a new personal best at the event with a jump of 11.04m in the triple jump to place 17th. She is now the fourth woman in program history to have a mark of at least 11.00m in the event.
Qualified athletes for the Huskies will be competing next weekend at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships at UMass Amherst.
