Women's Track and Field Riley Driscoll, Athletic Media Associate

Huskies Place Third at Maine State Pine Tree Classic; Barnes Named Field MVP

WATERVILLE, Maine – Senior Zoe Barnes (New Gloucester, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) won the shot put and the discus on Saturday at the Maine State Pine Tree Classic and was named the Most Valuable Field Performer. Her shot put mark of 13.15m ranks third in program history while her discus mark of 45.25m also ranks third.

Juniors Riley Reitchel (Palermo, Maine/Erskine Academy) and Lucy Depolito (North Andover, Mass.) also won events. Reitchel won the pole vault with a mark of 3.25m and Depolito placed first in the 5000 meters with a time of 19:38.96.
 
The Huskies placed third in the team standings with 121 points.
 
Track Event Highlights:
  • The 4x400 relay team of freshman Mya Austin (Sumner, Maine/Buckfield),  senior Heaven Conley (Ogunquit, Maine/Wells), junior Alexis Karantza (Westbrook, Maine) and freshman Meghan Przybilla (St. Anthony, Minn./St. Anthony Village)placed second with a time of 4:07.25. 
  • The Huskies' 4x100 team of freshman Khalysa Hammith (Windham, Maine), Austin, Conley and Young placed fourth with a time of 50.21 seconds.
  • Freshman Saya Breiting-Brown (Portland, Maine/Deering) placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.29 seconds.
  • Conley placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.84 seconds. Austin placed eighth with a time of 13.14m.
  • Karantza broke the one-minute mark in the 400 meters for the first time in her outdoor career with a time of 59.48 seconds to place fifth. She now ranks seventh in program history in the event.
  • Sophomore Gwen Catalano (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) placed sixth in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:59.81.
  • Sophomore Julia Szewc (Hermon, Maine) placed ninth in the 5000 meters with a time of 20:51.18.
  • The 4x800 team of Przybilla, Catalano, junior Whitney Davenport (Westbrook, Maine) and junior AnnMarie Limberger (Vassalboro, Maine/Waterville) placed second with a time of 11:12.01.
 Field Event Highlights:
  • Freshman Amara Calhum-Flowers (Bethel, Vt./White River Valley) placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.70m. Her mark is a personal best and she is now ninth in program history.
  • Junior Izze Gray (Berwick, Maine/Noble) placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 33.91m. She also placed 11th in the shot put with a throw of 9.60m.
  • Hammith placed 12th in the long jump with a mark of 4.71m.
  • Graduate student Olivia Jalbert (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) placed 12th in the triple jump with a mark of 9.65m.
 
Up Next:
The Huskies will now turn their attention to next weekend's 2025 Little East Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The championship meet starts at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 26 at UMass Dartmouth.
