GORHAM, Maine – Five members of the University of Southern Maine women's cross country and track and field program have earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors. The five honorees include seniors
Hannah Corbett (Sebago, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and
Sophia Slovenski (Cape Neddick, Maine/Phillips Academy), junior
Olivia Jalbert (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) and sophomores
Olivia Mosca (Brewer, Maine) and
Anna Reny (Gardiner, Maine/Cony). Slovenski previously earned Academic All-District and First Team Academic All-America honors following the 2020-21 academic year while the other four are first-time honorees.

To be eligible for the accolade, student-athletes must be a starter or an important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests, must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, and have been at their current institution for one full academic year. Graduate students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher as both an undergrad and graduate student-athlete.

Corbett earned Second Team All-Little East Conference honors after placing second in the weight throw at the 2023 LEC Indoor Track & Field Championships. At the event she established a new personal-best of 15.00m and became only the second athlete in program history to record a throw of 15.00m or better. Her mark was also top-five in the region and earned her All-Region honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA). During the 2023 outdoor season she placed third at the conference championships and had a season-best of 46.30m. A Biology major and recent graduate, Corbett has been named to the LEC All-Academic Team three times, the LEC Academic Honor Roll five times and is a two-time William B. Wise Scholar Athlete.

Slovenski, who recently graduated with a degree in Health Sciences, has now earned Academic All-District honors twice in her career. In 2021 she was also named First Team Academic All-America after an outstanding season that saw her win the national title in the javelin. Slovenski won the conference pole vault titles at both the indoor and outdoor conference championships and finished second in the long jump at each event. She also placed second in the 60-meter hurdles at the indoor championships. Slovenski earned All-Region status in the pentathlon and the pole for the indoor season and again for the pole vault during the outdoor portion of the season. A seven-time LEC event champion, Slovenski has made the conference's all-academic team five times and the academic honor roll six times. She also has twice been named an All-Academic Athlete by the USTFCCCA due to a combination of her grades and placement on the national performance lists.

Jalbert won the high jump and long jump titles at both the indoor and outdoor LEC championships. An Exercise Science major, Jalbert was named All-Region in both events following the indoor season. She was chosen as the 2023 LEC Field Athlete of the Year for her performance at the indoor championships and also earned the Field Athlete of the Year title in 2022 at the outdoor championships after winning three events. In total she has won nine individual conference titles over the course of her career. Her LEC accolades also extend to the academics as she has earned spots on the LEC All-Academic Team three times and the LEC Academic Honor Roll six times. She was a USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete in 2022 and is a two-time William B. Wise Scholar Athlete.

Mosca, a History major, placed fourth at the 2022 LEC Cross Country Championship to earn First Team All-LEC honors for the second year in a row. In 2021 she was the conference's Rookie of the Year for cross country after finishing second at the conference championship. Additionally, she earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete status this past fall for cross country. Mosca won two individual titles at the 2023 LEC Indoor Track & Field Championships with first place finishes in the mile and 3000 meters. At the outdoor conference championship she was a member of the winning 4x800 relay team and finished second in the 1500 meters. Mosca was named to the LEC All-Academic Team this past winter and is a William B. Wise Scholar-Athlete in addition to being a three-time LEC Academic Honor Roll member.

Reny, who placed 14th in the 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA Division III National Championships last week, is majoring in psychology. The 2023 LEC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, Reny won the conference title in the 400-meter hurdles for the second year in a row and also ran on the first-place 4x100 relay team. Reny also has been part of the LEC Champion 4x400 relay teams in each of the past two indoor seasons. Like Jalbert and Slovenski, Reny was a USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete in 2022. She also was named to the LEC All-Academic Team this past winter and is a two-time LEC Academic Honor Roll member.

As Academic All-District student-athlete honorees, each of the five Huskies on the Academic All District team are eligible for the Academic All-America ballot. Voting for the Academic All-America program continues through June 7, and the Academic All-America team for women's cross country and track and field will be announced on June 28. Members of College Sports Communicators are eligible to vote. College Sports Communicators began the distinguished Academic All-America® program in 1952, and since then, has honored more than 38,000 deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America® scholar-athlete honors. Currently, CSC sponsors Academic All-America® programs for men's soccer, women's soccer, football, volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's swimming & diving, women's swimming & diving, men's tennis, women's tennis, baseball, softball and men's and women's track and field/cross country. Many other sports are eligible through the At-Large program, including USM sponsored sports field hockey, golf, ice hockey, and wrestling).                       Â
