GORHAM, Maine – Junior captain
Gwen Catalano (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's cross country team have earned All-Academic honors from U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2025 season. Catalano repeated as an All-Academic Athlete, while the team posted a combined GPA of 3.44 to earn their 13th consecutive All-Academic Team honor.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 percent of their respective regional championship meet. In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.1 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period, among other qualifiers.
Catalano turned in a personal-best performance at the NCAA Division III East Regional Championships with a time 22:56.0 to place 42nd in the 6k and finish well above the 54th-place cut off for All-Academic honors for the region. She also earned First Team All-LEC honors for the first time in her career after placing fifth at the conference championship meet with a time of 23:02.70. Catalano is majoring in Health Sciences with an Occupational Therapy track.
The Huskies finished fifth in the team standings at the 2025 Little East Conference Championship and finished 16th at the NCAA DIII East Regional Championship. Catalano was one of five Huskies to earn a spot on the Fall 2025 LEC All-Academic team. She was joined by junior
Elise Schultz (Windham, Maine) and seniors
Alexis Karantza (Westbrook, Maine),
AnnMarie Limberger (Vassalboro, Maine/Waterville) and
Anabel Melanson (West Warren, Mass./Quaboag).
