GORHAM, Maine – Six members of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's cross country and track & field program have earned 2025-2026 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors. Earning the academic distinction were senior
Jaigan Boudreau (Dayton, Maine/Thornton Academy), sophomore
Saya Breiting-Brown (Portland, Maine/Deering), junior
Gwen Catalano (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle), senior
Alexis Karantza (Westbrook, Maine), senior
AnnMarie Limberger (Vassalboro, Maine/Waterville) and senior
Riley Reitchel (Palermo, Maine/Erskine Academy).
Boudreau, Karantza and Reitchel are now three-time honorees, while Breiting-Brown, Catalano and Limberger have earned the honor for the first time.
To be eligible for Academic All-District recognition, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically with a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher. Eligible nominees are based on TFRRS regional performance rankings at the time of nomination. They must also have a rank in the Top 50 in their region in a single event (XC, indoor or outdoor). Selected by College Sports Communicators, the Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in competition and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Boudreau, a Criminology major, won the Little East Conference title in the shot put and discus during the outdoor season in addition to earning U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honors in both events by ranking in the top eight in the region in each event. She also earned All-Region honors in the shot put for the indoor season. The indoor season also saw her set a new personal-best in the shot put with a mark of 13.21m to place second at the Husky Invitational. In her career, Boudreau has earned 11 All-Region honors and six LEC event titles with three shot put titles, two discus titles and one title in the weight throw.
Breiting-Brown, a hurdler who is double majoring in Public Health & Art, placed second in the 400-meter hurdles at the LEC Outdoor Championships with a personal-best time of 1:08.77 to earn Second Team All-LEC honors. Her time ranked 29th in the region, and she also ranked 16th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.43 seconds. For the indoor season, her converted 60-meter hurdles time of 9.50 seconds ranked 19th in the region. Breiting-Brown earned Third Team All-LEC and All-Rookie status in the 60-meter hurdles and 100-meter hurdles in 2024-25 in addition to running on a 4x200 relay team that won the 2025 LEC indoor title.
Catalano, a team captain for cross country, qualified for the honor in all three seasons. She placed 42nd at the NCAA Division III East Region Cross Country Championships with a personal-best time of 22:56.0 in the 6k and earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete honors. She also earned First Team All-LEC honors during the cross country season by placing fifth at the LEC Championships with a time of 23:02.7. Her success continued into the indoor season where she earned Second Team All-LEC honors in the 5000m with a personal-best time of 18:23.50 and Third Team All-LEC honors in the 3000m with a time of 10:55.65. Catalano then earned Third Team All-LEC honors in the 5000m during the outdoor season by running a time of 18:23.21 at the conference championships. Catalano is majoring in Health Sciences.
Karantza, a Nursing major and track & field team captain, won her third consecutive conference title in the 400-meter hurdles during the outdoor season and earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors in the event by ranking eighth in the region with a personal-best time of 1:04.70 that came at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championship. In addition to her conference title in the 400-meter hurdles, Karantza earned All-LEC honors as part of 4x400 relay teams during both the indoor and outdoor seasons with Second Team honors at the indoor championships and Third Team honors at the outdoor championships. The indoor season also saw her earn All-Region honors as part of a 4x400 relay team that ranked eighth in the region. She also earned Third Team All-LEC honors in the indoor 400 meters.
Limberger, who also served as a team captain for cross country, earned Second Team All-LEC honors as part of 4x800 relays team at both the indoor and outdoor conference championship meets this season. During the indoor season she placed fourth in the 800 meters at the LEC Championships with a personal-best time of 2:26.16. Limberger was the second fastest Husky at the LEC Cross Country Championships this past fall with a personal-best time of 24:15.9 to place 17th. She also finished in the top 100 at the regional championships by placing 92nd and was the third Husky to cross the finish line. Limberger recently completed her degree in Elementary Education.
Reitchel earned First Team All-American honors for the second time in her career after placing sixth in the javelin last month at the NCAA Division III National Championships with a season-best throw of 43.35m, the sixth-best mark in program history. A three-time All-Region performer and three-time national championship qualifier, Reitchel ranked third in the region in the event and 19th nationally heading into Nationals. She won her third LEC javelin title and earned Second Team All-LEC honors in the outdoor pole vault and Third Team honors in the indoor pole vault. In addition to her three conference titles in the javelin, Reitchel won conference titles in the indoor pole vault in 2024 and as part of an indoor 4x400 team in 2023. A team captain for both the Southern Maine women's track & field and soccer teams, the Linguistics major has now earned five total Academic All-District awards between the two sports.
