GORHAM, Maine – Senior Ashley Tinsman (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and sophomore Rona Scott (Beverly, Mass.) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' softball team each earned weekly honors from the Little East Conference after a strong opening weekend for the Huskies.  Tinsman was named the conference's Player of the Week, while Scott was named the LEC Rookie of the Week. 

            Tinsman was a force for the Huskies offensively helping USM to a pair of wins on the road at Colby College (4-1, 8-3).  Tinsman combined for a 4-for-9 effort in the double header with two runs scored, three extra base hits, and five RBI.  In the opener, Tinsman was 2-for-4 with one runs scored and three RBI, driving in three runs with a three-run home run in the top of the seventh to break a 1-1 deadlock between the two schools.  In the second half of the doubleheader, Tinsman knocked in two more runs going 2-for-5 at the plate, including a double.  Defensively, Tinsman turned in a strong performance behind the plate completing the battery for two wins in the circle.  She had 13 putouts and an assist, picking off a base runner on a stolen base attempt in game two. 

            Playing first base, Scott had a strong start for the Huskies.  Scott was 3-for-6 at the plate for the Huskies, including a double and two RBI.  Scott singled in the Huskies first run in game two, and then singled in another run later in the game to help USM to an 8-3 win.  Defensively, Scott had 12 putouts and one assist, throwing out a lead runner first-to-third to cut short a Colby inning.

            Southern Maine is scheduled to host UMaine Farmington on Wednesday (2:00 pm) in a non-conference doubleheader.
