GORHAM, Maine – Freshman
Mia Coots (Hartland, Maine/Nokomis) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies softball team has been named the 2025 Maine College Baseball & Softball Association (MCBSA) Rookie of the Year. Additionally, both Coots and junior
Kendall Migliorini (Salem, NH) each earned a spot on the 2025 MCBSA All-State roster. Coots was named to the first team, while Migliorini earned second team honors.
Recently earning first team All-Little East Conference honors, Migliorini led the Huskies in batting average hitting a team-best .297. (33-for-111) with a team-high 23 RBI. Collecting 14 doubles and three home runs during the season, she had a .505 slugging percentage, and scored 21 runs. Playing in all 40 games, Migliorini started 38 and played strong defense as the Huskies' first basemen fielding .987 with 287 putouts and eight assists and was involved in three double-plays. Setting career-highs in batting average, hits, doubles and home runs as well as RBI, Migliorini had nine games with at least two hits, led by a 3-for-4 effort with four RBI against WestConn to close out the regular season.
A Business Management major, Migliorini was recently recognized as a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District student-athlete. Playing in 88 games over three seasons, Migliorini is a career .262 hitter with 69 hits in 263 at-bats. She has 33runs scored and 48 career RBI. Among her hits are 25 doubles, and five home runs.
Making an immediate impact for the Huskies, Coots earns MCBSA Rookie of the Year and first team All-State honors in her first intercollegiate season. Making 24 appearances with a 12-9 record with one save, Coots fired a team-high 129.1 innings with a 2.54 ERA. The first-year standout struck out 105, holding hitters to a .236 average, and posting a 1.24 WHIP. Coots recorded 13 complete games, including four shutouts and one save.
Earning first team All-Little East Conference honors as a rookie, Coots was earned weekly honors from the MCBSA five times in 2025. Coots' 12 wins in 2025 are tied for 14
th in single-season USM records, while her 105 strikeouts are 12
th. She is pursuing a degree in Health Sciences.
Southern Maine concluded the 2025 season with an overall record of 20-20, going 18-12 after its 10-game Florida trip, and 10-6 in the Little East Conference. The Huskies finished the 2025 Little East Conference regular season in second place after being selected to finish fourth in the conference preseason poll.
