SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey capped off a two-game homestand with a 2-0 win against the University of Southern Maine in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East action on Saturday at Cairns Arena.
The Purple Knights move to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the ECAC East, while the Huskies slide to 1-4 and 0-4. The Purple and Gold also picked up its third straight win against the Huskies, and its seventh in the last nine meetings.
Sophomores Danny Divis (Media, Pa.) and Josh Dickman (Kapaa, Hawaii) scored goals 12 seconds apart in the latter stages of the second period to provide the winning margin. Junior Mike Schreiner (St. Albans, Vt.) picked up the lone assist on the Divis goal while classmate Kevin Altidor (Montreal, Quebec) set-up the Dickman marker.
Senior goalie Dave Donzanti (West Chester, Pa.) recorded a 14-save shutout for the second clean sheet of his career, tying him for most in program history. Donzanti was also in net the last time that Saint Michael's blanked an opponent back on Nov. 20, 2012 against the State University of New York at Canton. Southern Maine rookie goalie Kyle Shapiro (Ocean, N.J.) stopped a season-high 44 saves in the loss.
Divis broke a scoreless tie in the second period when he sent the puck through traffic off Schreiner's faceoff win and past Shapiro's glove at 15:19. The marker was Divis' third in the last three games.
Saint Michael's struck again just 12 seconds later when Dickman punched in the loose puck off a rebound after Shapiro made the initial save on Altidor. Southern Maine was able to muster only one shot after the goals as the visitors finished the second stanza having been outshot, 14-3.
Saint Michael's finished the game with a decided 46-14 advantage in shots on goal. Neither team was able to convert with the man advantage as the Huskies were 0 for 3 and the Purple Knights were 0 for 8.
Southern Maine travels to the University of New England on Friday (7:00 p.m.) for an ECAC East game. St. Michael's hits the road for a pair of games, starting with the New England College on Friday (7:00 p.m.), followed by a Saturday contest (4:00 p.m.) at Saint Anselm College.
