BABSON PARK, Mass. – Freshman Jordan Bezio (North Hampton, N.H.) scored in the seventh round of the shootout to give the University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's ice hockey team an extra point in the Little East Conference standings in a 3-3 draw on the road against No. 13 Babson College. Sophomore Gavin Simopoulos (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) scored, while senior Conor Donovan (Nahant, Mass./Swampscott) and sophomore Owen Arend (Palmetto, Fla./Kents Hill School) had goals as well. The Huskies earn two points in the conference standings for the shootout win, while Babson earns a point for the tie and shootout loss.

How It Happened:
  • Simopoulos gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead 2:02 into the action for his second goal in as many games with an off-angle backhanded shot. Junior Ethan Hoover (Hershey, Penn.) and freshman Cam Gwatkin (Lyndonville, Vt./Proctor Academy) had the assists.
  • Babson took a 2-1 lead in a pair of goals in the span of 1:09 as Sean Senier and Fallon each found the back of the net. Senier drove home a rebound of a shot by Danny Cavanagh and Brown set up Fallon for the go-ahead goal.
  • Morin kept the deficit at 2-1 with 13 saves in the second period.
  • Donovan tied the game at 2-2 by intercepting the puck and ripping a shot high to beat Mueller six minutes into the third period. The third Southern Maine goal came on a similar play when Arrend collected a loose puck in the offensive zone and threw a shot on net that ricocheted off Mueller's blocker and into the net.
  • Driscoll cleaned up a rebound in front of the crease with Babson's goalie pulled to tie the game with 1:36 left in regulation with Fallon and Brown picking up the assists.
  • Each team had good chances in overtime, but Mueller and Morin each held strong in goal.
  • Bezio deked Mueller to score the only goal of the shootout to put the Huskies up 1-0. Babson's Ryan Murphy then missed his opportunity as the Huskies took the shootout win and an extra point in the LEC standings.
