Norwich Holds Off Southern Maine 2-1

GORHAM, Maine – Two first-period goals propel the Norwich University Cadets to a 2-1 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's ice hockey team on Saturday evening in the USM Ice Arena. The Huskies cut the lead to 2-1 in with one minute left on the clock thanks to a goal by sophomore Gavin Simopoulos (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) from senior captain Cole Brennan (Sussex, N.J./ Pomfret School).

The Cadets had goals from Colin Elliott and Jed Brazo in the span of three than three minutes during the first period and held the Huskies off the board nearly the rest of the way until Simopoulos ended their shutout bid. Norwich goalie Bryce Walcarius made 24 saves to pick up the win. Freshman Loci Morin (Drummondville, Quebec) took the loss for the Huskies despite making 20 saves.
