Southern Maine’s Riley Reitchel Earns First Team All-American Honors by Placing Sixth in the Javelin at 2026 NCAA DIII National Championships

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Senior Riley Reitchel (Palermo, Maine/Erskine Academy) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's track & field team earned First Team All-American honors in the javelin for the second time in her career by placing sixth the 2026 NCAA Division III Men's Track & Field National Championships on Saturday with a throw of 43.35m. The mark is a season-best for Reitchel and is the sixth-best throw in program history. The event was held at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Reitchel had the best mark of the first flight with her throw of 43.35m on her second attempt. She had just set a season-best on her first attempt with a throw of 42.65m which ranks 14th in program history. Her last throw of the round went for 41.23m. She entered the finals in fifth place and fouled on her last attempts.

Reitchel is now a two-time First Team All-American and three-time National Qualifier in the javelin. She ends her career as a three-time Little East Conference champion and a three-time U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region performer in the event.

First-Team All-America status is awarded to finishers 1-8 (individual events and relays) in each event at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. All finalists in an eight-person final automatically earn First-Team All-America status, regardless of place and participation in the final round of the event in question. Second-Team All-America status is awarded to finishers 9-16 (individual events) and 9-12 (relays) in each event at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Preliminary round placings are used for classification for events in which fewer than 12 participate in the final round. Athletes and relays must have a valid mark in at least one round to earn All-American status. E.g., those who do not finish, no height, foul three attempts, or are disqualified are not eligible for All-America status if no other valid mark from a previous round exists.
