GORHAM, Maine – Senior
Riley Reitchel (Palermo, Maine/Erskine Academy) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's track & field team will be competing on the national stage for the third time on Saturday when she throws the javelin at 3:00 pm at the 2026 NCAA Division III Men's Track & Field National Championships at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Â
Reitchel first qualified for the National Championships as a freshman in 2023 where she placed 22nd with a mark of 32.97m. She made it back to Nationals last season as a junior and finished fourth with a throw of 41.32m to earn First Team All-American honors. Her best mark this season was a throw of 42.09m that won her the Little East Conference title.
Â
Reitchel also won the javelin titles at the University of New Hampshire Jim Boulanger Invitational (40.02m) and the Maine State Pine Tree Classic (38.30m) in addition to place fourth at the Division III New England Championships (38.96m) and second at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships (39.91m). She was named the LEC Field Athlete of the Week twice this outdoor season.
Â
In addition to Reitchel, the javelin field includes three returning First Team All-Americans in Laura Bertrang from Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Devyn Chelin from Whitworth and Elaine Wang from MIT. Augustana's Laina Nelson, Roger Williams' Angela West and Tufts' Jackie Wells are also entered in the competition and earned Second Team All-America honors last May.
Â
First-Team All-America status is awarded to finishers 1-8 (individual events and relays) in each event at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. All finalists in an eight-person final automatically earn First-Team All-America status, regardless of place and participation in the final round of the event in question.
Â
Second-Team All-America status is awarded to finishers 9-16 (individual events) and 9-12 (relays) in each event at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Â
Preliminary round placings are used for classification for events in which fewer than 12 participate in the final round. Athletes and relays must have a valid mark in at least one round to earn All-American status. E.g., those who do not finish, no height, foul three attempts, or are disqualified are not eligible for All-America status if no other valid mark from a previous round exists.
