Southern Maine Women’s Track & Field Captures Sixth Consecutive Little East Conference Outdoor Championship

MANSFIELD, Conn. – The University of Southern Maine women's track & field program won its 25th Little East Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday by scoring 159 points to win the title for the sixth consecutive season. Senior Jaigan Boudreau (Dayton, Maine/Thornton Academy) led the Huskies with event titles in the shot put and discus. She recorded season-bests in each event with a mark of 13.00m in the shot put and 42.84m in the discus. Boudreau also earned points for the Huskies by placing sixth in the hammer with a personal-best throw of 42.82m. She has now won the LEC outdoor title twice in each event after previously winning both events in 2022.
 
Senior Alexis Karantza (Westbrook, Maine), freshman Emma O'Brien (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest) and senior Riley Reitchel (Palermo, Maine/Erskine Academy) each won individual event titles for Southern Maine. Karantza won the 400-meter hurdles for the third year in a row with a time of 1:06.10. O'Brien cleared 3.25m to win the pole vault. Reitchel placed second in the pole vault at 3.10m and won the second javelin conference title of her career with a season-best throw of 42.09m.
 
Southern Maine also had second place performances from junior Kiana Goldberg (Sabattus, Maine/Lisbon) in the 100-meter hurdles, sophomore Saya Breiting-Brown (Portland, Maine/Deering) in the 400-meter hurdles, freshman Florence Guimont (Boisbriand, Quebec/Laval Senior) in the 3000-meter steeplechase and the 4x800 relay team of sophomore Meghan Przybilla (St. Anthony, Minn./St. Anthony Village), senior Whitney Davenport (Westbrook, Maine), senior Anabel Melanson (West Warren, Mass./Quaboag) and senior AnnMarie Limberger (Vassalboro, Maine/Waterville).
 
Goldberg ran a time of 15.03 seconds in the finals to take second place and is now tied for fifth in program history. Breiting-Brown set a personal-best with a time of 1:08.77. Guimont recorded a time of 12:04.06 to also set a personal-best. The 4x800 group finished their race in 10:05.36, a time that ranks sixth in program history.
 
Junior Gwen Catalano (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and freshman Madi Sainis (Pierrefords, Quebec) also reached the podium in their individual events. Sainis ran a personal-best time of 4:54.74 to place third in the 1500 meters. Catalano set a personal-best in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:23.21. Sainis also teamed up with Karantza, freshman Ashley Arsenault (Winthrop, Maine) and freshman Addy Burkhardt (Lisbon Falls, Maine/Lisbon) on a 4x400 relay team that placed third with a time of 4:06.63.
 
 
Track Event Highlights:  
  • Senior Lucy Depolito (North Andover, Mass.) placed fourth in the 10000 meters with a time of 41:13.43. Junior Julia Szewc (Hermon, Maine) came in fifth at 42:36.39.
  • Breiting-Brown finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.48 seconds.
  • Sainis also placed fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:24.22.
  • Senior Janiah Young (Perkinsville, Vt./Windsor) placed fifth in both 100 meters (12.51 seconds) and 200 meters (26.07 seconds).
  • Burkhardt (Lisbon Falls, Maine/Lisbon) finished sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 59.61 seconds.
  • The USM 4x100 relay team of junior Allie Kimball (Winslow, Maine), Burkhardt, Arsenault and Karantza placed sixth with a time of 51.51 seconds.
  • Guimont finished eighth in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:15.19.
  • Przybilla placed ninth in the 800 meters with an outdoor-best time of 2:29.55.
 
Field Event Highlights:
  • Freshman Sienna Geretz (Cushing, Maine/Oceanside) placed fourth in the javelin and fifth in the pole vault with personal-bests in each event. She had a mark of 33.76m in the javelin and cleared 2.35m in the pole vault.
  • Sophomore Khalysa Hammith (Windham, Maine) placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 5.10m.
  • Freshman Ava Gerrity (Windham, Maine) finished seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 10.29m.
  • Sophomore Kate LeBlanc (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) placed ninth in the javelin with a throw of 29.71m.
  • Freshman Nadia Sylla (Burlington, Vt.) placed 10th in the shot put with an outdoor-best mark of 10.5wm.
  • Senior Lizzie Asman (Marlborough, Mass./Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter) placed 10th in the hammer with a personal-best mark of 40.14m.

The next meet for the Huskies will be the DIII New England Championships on May 1-2 at Springfield College.
