Kate Hester Named Little East Conference Rookie of the Week

GORHAM, Maine – Freshman midfielder Kate Hester (Austin, Texas) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's soccer team has been named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Week.  Earning the first weekly accolade of her career, Hester is the first Huskies' women's soccer player to earn conference recognition this season.

Hester scored the Huskies' game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Rivier University in a mid-week non-conference game.  Scoring in the 51st minute, Hester hit a powerful shot from the top of the area to the upper right corner for the Southern Maine win.  Hester played 37 minutes in a reserve role for the Huskies against Rivier, and in USM's 3-1 win over Keene State, the freshman midfielder played 61 minutes helping limit KSC to just five total shots and two on frame.

Hester has played in seven games this season with a pair of starts. She has two goals, both game-winning, in her career and has a .667 shots-on-goal percentage.

The Huskies host UMass Boston on Wednesday, October 7 (6:00 pm) in Little East Conference action.  Southern Maine is then on the road for its next two contests traveling to WestConn on Saturday, October 10 (12:00 pm) and then to RV Middlebury College on Tuesday, October 13 (4:30 pm). The Huskies are back home against VTSU-Castleton on Saturday, October 17 (11:00 am) in an LEC contest.
