WestConn (4-2-7, 2-1-3 LEC)

Today's game marked the 41st meeting between the Western Connecticut State University Wolves and the University of Southern Maine Huskies.  Southern Maine is 5-0-3 against the Wolves in their last eight meetings. WestConn leads the overall series 32-6-3.

How It Happened:
  • WestConn took a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute after Delaney Israel converted a penalty for her third goal of the season.
  • The Huskies answered right back in the 31st to knot the game up at 1-1.  Junior Natalie Flageolle (Broomfield, Colo./Legacy) scored her first goal of 2026.  Junior Taryn Curry (Raymond, Maine/Freeport) carried the ball down the right side of the field to the endline and then cut back to send a pass to the far post side of the box allowing Flageolle to knock in a goal.
  • Tied at 1-1 through the halftime break, Southern Maine took a 2-1 lead in the 52nd minute when sophomore Marie Benoit (Hallowell, Maine/Hall-Dale) finessed in a shot to the left lower corner after receiving a ball from freshman Maya Ingles (Saint Paul, Minn./Saint Paul Central).
  • WestConn responded quickly and tied up the game almost immediately after the restart on Madelyn Dwyer's first goal of the season on a feed from Morgan Marcuss.  Dwyer collected a bouncing ball after Marcuss' pass deflected off a Husky defender to set her open in the box.
  • WestConn's Shannon Anderson made it 3-2 in favor of the Wolves minutes later picking off an errant pass right in front of the net and lacing a shot to the far post in the 64th minute for her fifth goal of the season.
  • Down a goal, Southern Maine pressed for an equalizer.  Freshman Charley Baillie (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) continued her strong play running onto a ball from sophomore Lexi Morin (Brunwick, Maine) and putting a shot on frame to the near post forcing WestConn's Gracen Regan to make a save on the near post.
  • Jepson pushed the ball forward and earned a deep throw in for the Huskies. After recycling the ball, junior Ani Roberts (Bangor, Maine) had a shot deflected for a corner kick.  Lining up on the left, Wetzel sent a ball into the area and Jepson ran onto it on the far post heading it home.
