GORHAM, Maine – Madi Pittman and Lorelai Leddy each scored a goal as the UMass Boston Beacons took a 2-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference women's soccer game Wednesday evening at Hannaford Field.
Both Pittman and Leddy's goals came against the run of play as USM dominated offensive statistics and possession, but the Beacon goal scorers took advantage of their chances with a pair of solid finishes in the box. Beacon goalkeeper Janiya Morales Matier made 11 saves in a strong effort to preserve the win for UMB.

Today's game marked the 34th meeting between the UMass Boston Beacons and the University of Southern Maine Huskies. Southern Maine leads the overall series 18-15-1. How It Happened:
- Southern Maine outshot the Beacons 7-3 (4-1 on goal) in the first 45 minutes and had several dangerous balls slipped into the box, but were unable to get past Matier. Sophomore Lexi Morin (Brunswick, Maine) and senior Elizabeth Talbot (Windham, Maine) put a pair of shots on net back-to-back but Matier turned each away in the 35th minute.
- Boston scored on its third shot of the half and the first since the 17th minute when a pass from Camryn Trick deflected off a USM defender and set Pittman free into a one-on-one situation. Pittman converted scoring her first goal of the season. USM put a pair towards goal in the closing minute including less second attempt from Morin that was stopped by Matier.
- Southern Maine controlled possession to start the second half and peppered the UMB defense with eight shots and three corner kicks in the first 15 minutes, but UMB again took advantage of a long ball that skipped over the head of USM's defense and onto the foot of Leddy on the right side for another one-v-one situation. Leddy finished to the far post for her first goal in the 65th minute.
- The Huskies continued to hold possession and create chances over the next 25 minutes. Matier made a diving stop on an attempt from freshman Charley Baillie in the 77th minute, and Morin hit the post and in the 79th and then had another attempt saved by Matier in the 80th. Southern Maine finished the second half outshooting the Beacons 15-3.
