PORTLAND, Maine – The Husson University Eagles defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 9.5 to 2.5 on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference match at Riverside Golf Course in Portland. The teams played a modified match play event with four pairs facing off for each team. A total of three points were awarded for each match for the lowest score on each half of the course plus the cumulative holes won.
 
Freshman Jaden Poirier (White River Junction, Vt./Hartford) had the lowest round of the day with a 67 (-5) thanks to seven birdies. Husson's Mac Woodford fired a 69 (-3) to place second on the individual leaderboard.
 
The Husson pair of Jackson King and Will Kavanaugh took all three points in the first group. The Huskies got on the board by splitting with the Eagles in the second grouping. Husson took two of the three points in the third group, but the Huskies earned a point from solid play by the freshman Alex Fournier (Augusta, Maine/Cony) and senior Owen Doyle (Gardiner, Maine) on the front nine. The Eagles also earned all three points from the fourth group.
 
The Huskies now turn their attention towards the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships hosted by St. John Fisher University and Visit Rochester from May 20-23 at Midvale Country Club - Penfield, N.Y. | Cobblestone Creek Country Club - Victor, N.Y.
