Buteau Tied for Sixth After First Round of NEIGA Championship

BREWSTER, Mass. – Freshman Keenan Buteau (Scarborough, Maine) ended the first round of the 2025 New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Men's Golf Championship tied for sixth place after shooting a 74 (+2) on the par-72 6,604-yard Port course at The Captains Club in Brewster, Mass. The University of Southern Maine team is currently in fifth place with a team score of 308 (+2). Buteau had third birdies to tie with sophomore Alex Grant (St. Albans, Maine/Nokomis Regional) for the most on the team.
 
Grant and junior Finn Sharpe (Durham, Maine/Freeport) each shot a 77 (+5) and are tied for 22nd. Sharpe had a pair of birdies on the day.
 
Sophomore Alex Fournier (Augusta, Maine/Cony) is tied for 54th with an 80 (+8) while senior captain Sam Farr (Gorham, Maine) shot an 85 (+13) and is tied for 85th. Farr had a birdie on the sixth hole.
 
The University of Hartford leads the field after the first 18 holes with a team score of 299 (+11). Shawn Amari from Hartford, Derek Johnson from Western New England University, and Connor LaCross of Endicott College each shot par and are tied for first place.
 
The second round of the tournament continues tomorrow with Farr being the first Husky to tee off at 10:00 am.
